Permitted use
Under the current license, DataRelay Control may be used for:
- personal use
- education and non-commercial research
- evaluation and testing
- internal commercial use
- internal source-code modification for permitted uses
- customer-owned deployments where the customer directly controls and uses the deployment
- paid installation, integration, migration, maintenance, training, or support for a customer-owned deployment, provided DataRelay Control itself is not resold or operated as a managed service
Separate commercial license required
Without a separate written commercial license from DataRelay Labs, the current license does not permit:
- resale or sublicensing
- commercial redistribution as a standalone product
- OEM, embedding, bundling, or white-label productization
- commercial rebranding/forking
- SaaS, MSP, hosted, shared, managed, or multi-tenant offerings of DataRelay Control functionality
- use of substantial source code to create, improve, or maintain a competing or substitute commercial product
- removal or concealment of copyright, license, attribution, or trademark notices
- representing DataRelay Control as OSI-approved open-source software
Customer-owned deployment
Paid services around a customer-owned deployment are permitted when the customer directly controls the deployed software and DataRelay Control itself is not being resold or provided as a managed service.
Why Source Available?
The source can be inspected and modified for the uses permitted by the license, but productization, competing-product, resale, and SaaS/MSP restrictions mean the license is not an OSI open-source license.
